Home Security Tips for Frequent Traveleers

While traveling, you may often worry about your home’s security, and you may fear what can happen to your belongings when your home is left unattended. However, there are several steps you can take to keep your home secure while you’re away and maintain your peace of mind.

First, placing security cameras throughout and around your home allows you to surveil your property from afar. The best solution to give you peace of mind and deter intruders is to install a home alarm system. The blaring alarm that sounds when your home is broken into will likely chase away the criminals. Wireless systems available today allow you to monitor your home through apps on smart devices, making the process easy and convenient.

When traveling, never let your home appear to be empty. If there are any indications that no one is around, your home may be targeted. Uncollected mail, piles of newspapers, and unattended packages are obvious alerts that the homeowners are not present. In order to prevent this, you can contact USPS and have them place a hold on your mail while you are gone. You can also ask a friend or neighbor to collect the mail or packages for you. Another deterrent is to leave lights on. Porch lights, lamps, or even the television can supply enough brightness to discourage burglars.
